HAIR RECONSTRUCTION. WHAT IT IS AND HOW IT WORKS.

Hair reconstruction are two words you hear a lot in hairdressing salons. But what is it all about? First the facts: while skin regenerates itself, recovering from minor damage on its own, hair unfortunately doesn’t. When hair is damaged, it isn’t able to repair itself but needs a helping hand, which could be anything from specific products to an intensive professional salon treatment that we can then continue at home. One such treatment is reconstruction which rebuilds, regenerates and reinforces the hair cuticle. WHY HAIR GETS BRITTLE AND DAMAGED. Hair is made up of tightly packed keratinised cells. It begins life in the hair follicle, then the keratinised part grows out of the follicle, creating the shaft. The shaft is made up of 3 layers: 1) Medulla, the innermost part 2) Cortex, the middle layer which is particularly rich in melanin 3) Cuticle, the outermost layer of the hair. It, in turn, is made up of 6-8 layers of flat, overlapping cells, just like tiles on a roof, which are the scales. If hair is chemically analysed, we see it is mainly made up of keratin (65-95%), as well as water, lipids, minerals and pigments. When the cuticle is healthy, it homogeneously reflects the light, causing scattering (the diffusion of light) and the hair is radiant and shiny; when, however, it is fragmented, scaling occurs, namely the hair becomes darker. Hair is, by its very nature, elastic but, if subjected to major stressors, its structural bonds can break easily. Natural processes like dehydration or ageing, chemical treatments like colouring, bleaching, perming and straightening, as well as damaging heat treatments with hair dryers and straighteners and environmental aggressors such as the sun, wind and pollution, gradually weaken hair, causing irregularities in the shaft and damage to the keratin inside. Damage to the hair fibre occurs in several different stages: 1) the external cuticle is damaged as amino acids are lost in the keratin scales 2) the cortex and medulla are exposed to elements which damage their fibrils 3) the hair fibre loses its elasticity and compactness 4) the shaft becomes dehydrated and breaks. As a result, the fibre breaks down and loses fragments, leaving hair lacking in shine, elasticity and resistance. It looks dry and frizzy and the colour fades. The keratin in the inner part of the hair is destroyed or impoverished so hair becomes more fragile and breaks. At this point, basic treatments no longer work and our hair needs more radical measures, like reconstruction, which helps recreate the fibre. AMINO CONCENTRÉ. WHERE AND HOW DOES IT WORK? At this point we need to recreate the hair’s keratin, a protein made up of amino acids. To do this, we have to restore the sequence of amino acids in it. This is done by the Amino Concentré complex, a formula created by the Medavita laboratories based on the chemical composition of hair. Amino Concentré contains three pure amino acids: serine, threonine and carbocysteine. As well as providing these three amino acids, our professional salon reconstruction treatment further boosts the action of Amino Concentré with three more amino acids which are found in keratin: arginine, glycine and glutamic acid. These pure amino acids are so small they can penetrate the hair even deeper down, reaching the innermost layer. As a result, hair is conditioned, restructured and rebuilt, as the structure of the fibre is recomposed. BETA-REFIBRE RESTRUCTURING RITUAL. The B-Refibre reconstruction treatment has been studied at length to allow the amino acids to penetrate deep inside the hair fibre and bond with the beta-carotene inside the structure, an essential molecule which protects against free radicals and hair ageing. Beta-carotene is a provitamin, a precursor of vitamin A, and can be found in plants, fruit and vegetables. It effectively fights free radicals, boosts tissue growth and repair, is good for healthy mucosa and eyesight and protects against pollutants. It is a powerful antioxidant, protective and anti-photoaging. The B-Refibre reconstruction treatment consists of 4-week consecutive cycles and should be applied whenever your hair needs an immediate boost to its shine, body and vigour, especially when under a lot of stress like after the summer holidays. The salon treatment is complemented by a home treatment regime. It may not seem much, but there’s something magical about reconstructing the hair fibre because it takes damaged, dull-looking and fragile hair and makes it strong, beautiful and full of vitality.
