HAIRSTYLES. THE MOODS AND COLOURS OF THE SPRING-SUMMER 2019 RUNWAYS.

Every season the fashion industry’s gurus present collections that are an invaluable source of inspiration for both women and hairstylists. This Spring Summer the choice is endless and it was interesting to see how, in most cases, very different styles jostled for space on the same runway. It signalled a break from the past, when a couturier produced a single hair look with all the models on stage sporting practically the same hairstyle. It is also a reflection of everyday life, where the motto is maximum freedom of choice. Everything goes, as long as it’s a tailor-made hairstyle.

MOODS.

A mood is more than just a hairstyle. It means going beyond mere appearances to see who we really are. And in this process the hairstylist, with her expertise and advice, are fundamental. It is just as important, however, to take inspiration from the fashion world, which offers endless tips not only for choosing outfits but for new cuts and hairstyles. The four moods we have chosen show that sometimes all it takes is a detail to give us a positive sense of vitality, energy and enthusiasm for the future. Easy Long Long flowing locks never go out of fashion because they are the epitome of femininity. But the way they are interpreted varies from season to season. Spring Summer 2019 has decided that natural, free and shiny is the look of choice. And, if the occasional couturier asks their hairstylist for a messy, slightly wild version, well it’s most definitely the exception to the rule. For the more sophisticated women. Glam Short Short cuts are undoubtedly the most original, modern-looking and glamorous. Whether they are straight, wavy and texturized, or ultra-short, they reveal a strong personality and the desire to show off the unique features of the face. And when they hint at male strength, they inspire a search for intense and mysterious femininity. Just one last thing: bobs just below the ear have recently made a comeback. That’s what hairstylists are saying, so let’s take their word for it! Amongst us, details are everything: a flower or two stylish clips can make all the difference. Micro Fringe We saw it on the runways of the Spring Summer shows and sported by celebs like Emma Watson and Katy Perry: the mini fringe heralds the return of the happy-go-lucky, fresh and unconventional look. Just a couple of centimetres long to expose the face and focus attention on the eyes, it can be symmetrical and precise or wispy and irregular, or even brushed to the side. Just as long as it’s super micro. New Generation Updo Whether they are apparently self-done, pulled tight and polished or with a bit of movement and retro influence, updos are on-trend even for the upcoming Spring/Summer season. Mini buns placed in different positions on the head, low ponytails twisted round themselves, plaits and all manner of braided effects...All you’ve got to do is decide what to wear on the beach and what to show off by night.

COLOURS.

The “natural” colours (not overly elaborate but with subtle tone-on-tone contrasts) were the stars of the Spring Summer runway shows. So let’s not waste any time going over them again. Let’s take a look at the eccentric looks of some of the designers. Just a bit of fun for the sake of it? No, not really. More like inspiration for hairstylists and their most “daring” fashion-forward and urban addicted customers. There was no shortage of new easy-to-wear colours that will have everyone talking.   About White. Sometimes surprisingly pure, sometimes tinged with an ultra-pale grey or pink hue. We’re talking about white. The standout colour of Comme des Garçons’ Spring Summer show, it also featured - in different versions – on the Blumarine, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Fendi runways. La Tête en Rose. Pink was pop and assertive or muted and subtle, as presented by MSGM and Temperley London. It took on lilac and dusty accents in the Saint Laurent collection, while Marc Jacobs and Annakiki featured the colour of the year - Pantone Living Coral – in everything from their clothes to their hair. And More. There were vibrant colours (like Marc Jacobs’s light pastel blue and Saint Laurent’s dark black with dusty blue strands), but also calmer but innovative shades which will effortlessly earn a place for themselves in street style. The first of many was caramel. With its warm, sexy temperament, it was all the rage on many catwalks (Aigner and By Malina to name just two). Even baby blond, cold yet enchanting, turned a lot of heads.
